In SharePass, “Envelopes” represent a specialized mode designed for securely receiving sensitive information and data from trusted sources. This mode is tailored for users who may regularly receive confidential content, such as passwords, sensitive documents, or private messages. Envelopes are a means to facilitate this exchange while maintaining a high level of security and control.
Key Features
User-Initiated Secure Data Receipt
With SharePass Envelopes, users have the power to create a secure environment for receiving sensitive data from users that do not necessarily have a SharePass account. Whether you’re expecting a confidential document or a password from a trusted source, Envelopes provide a secure channel for such exchanges.
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
Envelopes rely on robust PKI technology, with users generating their own key pairs consisting of a public key (used by senders) and a private key (known only to the recipient). This infrastructure ensures that the recipient has full control over their security keys.
End-to-End Encryption
Like the core SharePass platform, Envelopes employ end-to-end encryption, ensuring that only the recipient can decrypt the contents of the Envelope. SharePass itself does not have access to the encryption keys or the content within the Envelope.
Flexibility in Data Types
Envelopes are versatile and can be used to receive a wide range of data types, from messages and documents to passwords and other sensitive information.
How Envelopes Work
1. Generating an Envelope: To receive dat using SharePass Envelopes, users initiate the process by generating an Envelope.

2. Sharing the Envelope ID: Once the Envelope is created, the recipient shares an Envelope ID with the sender via existing communication channels (email, chat, SMS, etc). This Envelope ID is nothing else than a SharePass link.

3. Sender’s Authentication: The sender may need to authenticate to open the envelope.

4. Sender’s Secure Submission: The sender then utilizes the recipient’s public key to encrypt the data they wish to share. This ensures that only the recipient, possessing the corresponding private key, can decrypt and access the content. This encryption process is completely transparent to the sender.

4. Recipient’s Secure Retrieval: Upon receiving the encrypted data, the recipient uses their private key to decrypt and access the content within the Envelope securely.
